One night at Hale Villa, Victor pins Celeste down in a guest bedroom, tears open her shirt and forces himself on her. She fights back, slaps him and says he is no different from her own husband, a man who cannot keep his hands off another man's wife. Victor drops to his knees, weeping that months of buried pain broke loose because his wife is next door with another man while he pretends all is fine. Exhausted, Celeste sends him for wine. In the hallway the tears vanish; he recomposes himself, admitting in voiceover that making her submit at once is unrealistic, that she is harder to handle than expected, and the tougher the challenge, the sweeter it is, so he will take it slowly. He returns with two glasses and asks to be friends. She agrees on one condition: never a second time. He promises, then draws his chair to her knees until they almost touch. This time she does not pull away. Downstairs, Lorelei lies naked against Elliot's chest, whispering how happy she is.
